Yeshiva College yearbook. First produced in 1929 by the Students' Organization of Yeshiva College. Later volumes produced by the senior class. "Ha Masmid" is the title of a Hebrew poem by Chaim Nachman Bialik, and refers to a diligent student. Issued in 3 volumes in slip case. Explanation for pre-distribution removal in 1971 of pages 34-37 from Volume II, per note dated 6/24/2010 from David Berger, then Instructor of Jewish History and presently Dean of the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies: "A student representative of the Yearbook asked to interview me, and I agreed with the explicit condition that the final version would be subject to my approval in every particular before publication. The student assured me that this condition would be met. Despite this assurance, the Yearbook was printed without my having been shown anything at all. This was brought to my attention before distribution, and I reacted very strongly. Aside from the publication of my own views without the opportunity for careful, reflective examination of the language, I was especially concerned by my citation of an opinion expressed by one of my most respected teachers. In light of the assurance provided by the interviewer, I had mentioned a remark made by R. Ahron Soloveichik in response to a question that he had been asked in a semi-private setting after shiur. I am virtually certain that I explicitly noted in the conversation that this was the sort of thing I would not want published since it may be that R. Soloveichik was not prepared to affirm this position in a public setting. In any event, I was sufficiently upset by this violation of an unambiguous commitment that I told the editors that if they distributed the Yearbook as is, I would take them to a din Torah. Thus, the leaf containing pp. 35-36 was cut out, and pp. 34 and 37 were glued together."
